Seeing our broad spectrum of humanity can be genuinely moving. LGBTQ+ folks are – at the end of the day – just like everybody else. If you’ve never physically been to a Pride event and seen beyond the most eye-popping pictures that make it into the media, that’s one of the most powerful lessons that you’ll bring back home with you. It’s heading to theaters just in time for Pride month. We might not have to wait long early footage from this summer’s “Toy Story” prequel “Lightyear” – which was recently shown at CinemaCon – included a queer lead character. Right-wing conservatives freaked out as studio heads promised to include LGBTQ+ characters more prominently within Disney TV shows and films. After publicly opposing the Florida law and championing its repeal – along with similar measures in Texas and elsewhere – Disney invited the whole internet to peer in on their “Reimagine Tomorrow” diversity initiative. Disney’s courage didn’t stay hidden for long.
